It showed up while I was isolating from my other half and my family while he was going through COVID. It's hard to watch (I love dogs) but it showed up just at the right time for me. It's the only Bong Joon Ho movie I hadn't seen yet. I love that you appreciated that they were finally streaming that movie too. Not everything has to be tethered to the (crappy) advertising / pay to play model. Hell the government could even shave a hairs width off the amount off subsidies they greedily pour into the coffers of evil fossil fuel companies each year (approx 20 billion in the last budget) to fund it, and discussion around advertising would be a moot point. That's a decent utilisation of public resources. That way we wouldn't have to worry about all this advertising bullshit and have a public service that is funded properly to stream content to the public.
Another option would be rather than forcing quality broadcasters like SBS to play the advertising game, we could, perchance, protect it from the market. SBS receives approximately 10% of revenue from private funding. SBS would be able to see that viewers are using adblockers, either actively by using browser extensions, or natively within their chosen browser for browsers such as Brave etc which have adblocker functions built in.
